When drinking White Tea, you must drink Silver Needle!
Adhering to the principle of “discerning people prefer the best and won't settle for less,” the status of White Fuzz Silver Needle is unshakable in the hearts of white tea enthusiasts.
Sweetness is favored exclusively by white tea enthusiasts. However, many also feel that although Silver Needle is tender and high-grade, its mild taste lacks some playfulness. They choose Shoumei but find it too coarse and old due to its lower grade, lacking freshness in flavor…
Alright! It has to be White Peony!
White Peony
This is truly not a second-choice compromise.
In the grading of white teas, White Peony comes after Silver Needle and before Shoumei, seemingly a “middle-of-the-road” choice; however, when it comes to tasting, White Peony is indeed an “all-inclusive” existence. It combines the fresh and intense fuzzy aroma of Silver Needle; compared to Shoumei, it has a more abundant and lively fragrance, with varied aromas and a rich layering.
What do you drink in White Peony?
As mentioned earlier, the aroma and taste of Peony are richer than those of Silver Needle and Shoumei, thanks to its standard of picking buds and leaves together.
In the White Peony grades containing both buds and leaves, there is a high proportion of aldehydes and alcohols and other volatile aromatic substances. These aromatic substances will also undergo transformation over time, gradually changing from fresh, floral, fruity, and sweet aromas to aged, woody, medicinal, and jujube aromas. The addition of years makes the quality of Peony increasingly complex, making it dazzlingly diverse.
In addition, the water-soluble solids, amino acids, and caffeine content of Peony after brewing are generally higher than those of other white tea grades.
So White Peony is not just a substitute but the preferred choice for quality-to-price ratio.
Selecting the Best, Peony King!
It's important to know that not all White Peonies can be called “Peony King.”
Peony King closely resembles White Fuzz Silver Needle in appearance. It is mainly composed of buds with a small amount of remaining leaves. The buds have thick, dense white fuzz, with a delicate and sweet taste, and a rich fuzzy and floral aroma. This is typical of having a “Peony appearance and Silver Needle taste.”
In Little Leaf's opinion, choosing Peony King has the following two advantages.
1
Rich and Varied Aroma
Floral aroma, as a basic spring white tea aroma, is widely present in various White Peonies. However, the aroma of Peony King is quite special. Its fuzzy aroma is stronger than its floral aroma, with an extremely fresh tea aroma.
Fuzzy aroma first, followed by floral aroma, the intensity of the fuzzy aroma is stronger than that of the floral aroma, and then gradually releases sweet, fruity, and fresh aromas… Its variability is incomparable to Silver Needle and Shoumei.
2
Fresh, Refreshing, and Smooth Taste
Due to its similar tea picking time to White Fuzz Silver Needle, Peony King has a similar robustness in its tea buds, and the accumulation of tea amino acids is also very close.
When drinking a pot of Peony King, you can enjoy a full, refreshing Cup of tea, and the mouthfeel will be even thicker and smoother, thanks to its leaves outside the buds.
White Peony Flourishes in Songxi, Impressive!
As early as the 1960s, Songxi County was known for producing White Peony, specifically the Jiulong Dabai variety.
Adjacent to Wuyi Mountain, Songxi County is characterized by low mountains, hills, and intermountain basins, and valleys interspersed with each other. Under the influence of a subtropical humid monsoon climate, rain and heat occur simultaneously, and the climate is changeable. Fortunately, most Jiulong Dabai tea trees grow along the mountain slopes, thus nurturing a strong vitality. The Jiulong White Peony produced from such raw materials combines floral aroma with freshness and has a clear, fresh, and sweet taste. Under suitable conditions, it becomes “more mellow with age,” making it highly collectible.
Since we're selecting White Peony, we naturally need to choose one with a good base, proper processing, excellent overall quality, and a promising transformation potential.
