Eight: Storage

56. What are the requirements for storing Anhua black tea in a warehouse?

A standard storage warehouse for Anhua black tea should meet several conditions: First, the warehouse should be away from sources of pollution and have no odors; it should be protected from sunlight with measures to block light; and it should be able to prevent dampness while allowing ventilation. Second, the warehouse should have sufficient space and area to allow for the separate storage of different types of tea, without mixing them to avoid flavor transfer; the interior of the warehouse should be clean, dry, and free of strange odors. Third, the warehouse should be equipped with devices for ventilation, heat dissipation, dehumidification, and moisture prevention, and it should have thermometers and hygrometers to display the temperature and humidity within the warehouse. The floors and walls of the warehouse for raw black tea and semi-finished tea should be made of natural wood, tiles, food-grade stainless steel, or other materials as isolation. The floors of warehouses for pre-packaged brick tea and finished tea should be hardened and have facilities for fire prevention, rodent prevention, insect prevention, dust prevention, and handling. For more details, refer to the “General Rules for the Storage of Anhua Black Tea” (DB43/T1736-2025).

57. What are the requirements for temperature and humidity when storing Anhua black tea?

Before storing, check that the tea and its packaging are free from mold, contamination, or other quality issues. The storage environment should maintain a temperature between 20°C and 30°C; relative humidity between 60% and 70%; and regular ventilation to ensure an appropriate supply of oxygen, which promotes maturation.
