Dian Hong black Tea is a renowned variety discovered by the two tea masters, Feng Shaoqiu and Zheng Hechun. After the initial batch of 500 cases was successfully produced in 1939, it was named “Dian Hong.” It originates from the southwestern part of Yunnan Province in China, in areas such as Lincang, Pu'er, and Lijiang on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. The region is characterized by towering mountains, misty clouds, ample sunshine, and moderate rainfall, providing an ideal natural environment for the growth of Dian Hong.
As a large-leaf Black Tea, Dian Hong boasts a robust and rich flavor, characterized by its unique “honey aroma” and floral-fruit fragrance, which brings great pleasure to the palate. The quality of the raw materials used is critical for good Dian Hong; only the tender shoots collected during early spring are carefully selected, typically one bud with one or two leaves attached, and only the fresh shoots gathered on the same day are used. The dry tea has a slender appearance, with clear and complete strands, half black and half golden, with dense golden tips prominently displayed.
The honey-like aroma can be detected even before brewing. Once brewed, the tea liquor is bright and red, as clear as amber, with a rich and elegant fragrance that is highly penetrating. Its texture is smooth like milk, with a sweet taste upon entry, offering a different experience with each infusion. It is very resistant to infusions, with a rich layering and a smooth mouthfeel, and the aftertaste lingers for a long time. After brewing, the nectarous liquid fills the mouth with honey aroma, the floral and honey scents intertwine due to natural fermentation, and the aroma fills the room. The taste is delightful, the aroma is rich and soothing, creating a warm and comfortable sensation.
Dian Hong is known for its high fragrance and intensity, delivering an authentic taste experience. The infused leaves are full and vibrant, with evenly plump buds, and the tender shoot tips are full of vitality. The honey aroma is strong, and the tea is resilient to infusions, with intact strands and a bright color. This is the true journey of Dian Hong, filled with fragrance, sweetness, richness, and depth.
