The Banana Grove is the oldest Tea garden in Yiwu's Highland Village and also the earliest settlement of the Highland Village ancestors. It is named after the wild bananas that grow abundantly there. The tea trees here have not been pruned and are in a semi-primitive state of pure wilderness. They coexist with the surrounding forest, and their age is both great and uniform. Combined with ample sunlight and a moderate slope, this tea plot has cultivated rich and unique tea leaves.
The Highland Village is located in the northeastern part of Mengla County, Yiwu Township, Xishuangbanna. At an altitude of 1,200 meters, it sits atop a high mountain, hence its name. Living high up in the mountains, amidst clouds and mist, naturally gives rise to extraordinary tea products.
The ancient tea gardens of Highland Village are the most intact among all the ancient tea gardens in the Yiwu tea area. At the end of the last century, when the government called for tea farmers to cut down tea trees and plant economic forests, the local villagers were too lazy to act, leaving the tea trees abandoned. As a result, the Highland Village has the most ancient tea trees that have never been dwarfed, and they remain vigorous.

The Banana Grove, as the name suggests, is a place where wild bananas grow profusely. For 100 years, ancient trees and wild banana groves have coexisted and grown together. Its aroma is particularly prominent among Yiwu teas, a rare fruit sweetness. In 2025, the Banana Grove was relatively unknown, with low production, making it scarce on the market.
The Banana Grove is an ecologically excellent ancient tea plot nestled deep within the Highland Village. With abundant nutrients and moderate sunlight, the environment is primitive and the soil fertile. The tea here thrives impressively, with remarkable quality and a strong, distinct mountain wilderness character. This tea plot is close to the depths of the forest. Because many wild bananas grow mixed with the tea plants, it is called the “Banana Grove,” a tea plot in a semi-primitive state of pure wilderness.
The path to the Banana Grove is a narrow trail, only passable by motorcycle, with various trees and plants on either side. The ancient tea trees inside have never been dwarfed, and ladders are needed for picking.
The Banana Grove is like a maiden living in the primeval forest. She does not partake of worldly affairs but enchants time and soothes the years. She is gentle and charming, clear and beautiful, purifying our minds and bodies with her elegance and spirit. She is both inner and outer beauty, with pure essence, flourishing without needing recognition. Encountering such a maiden, how could one not be filled with joy? The natural environment here is blessed by nature, allowing the tea trees to absorb clear and rich internal substances.
The Characteristics of the Banana Grove Ancient Tree Tea: The Banana Grove ancient tree tea carries the soft and sweet characteristics of Yiwu. It is also one of the areas in the Yiwu production region with the most pronounced aroma experience. Floral, sweet fruit, and honey fragrances are contained within the tea soup, with the aroma prominent in the soup and directly permeating outwards. The floral scent is subtle yet lingering. Upon tasting, the tea is fragrant and smooth, with a hint of bitterness passing over the tip of the tongue, followed by a sweet aftertaste in the throat. The tea liquor is soft and thick, creating a sensation akin to oil pressing the tongue. Throughout the Tea drinking process, the pervasive wild fruit fragrance and rich floral scent continuously spread in the mouth. The tea soup is smooth and delicate, with a return of sweetness and saliva production throughout the mouth.
