Basic Introduction to Pingli Gynostemma Pentaphyllum
Pingli Gynostemma Pentaphyllum, a plant species of the family Cucurbitaceae and genus Gynostemma. It is a variety of Chinese medicinal herb, a specialty product of Pingli County, Shaanxi Province, and a geographical indication product of China. Pingli is the natural distribution and differentiation center for Gynostemma Pentaphyllum, known as the “Hometown of Gynostemma,” and its unique regional micro-ecological environment is very suitable for the growth and development of Gynostemma Pentaphyllum. It is the earliest developed and largest-scale artificial cultivation base county for Gynostemma in China, as well as a national Gynostemma standardization demonstration area. In 1985, the original herb began to be exported to Japan. After being tested by experts including Professor Take moto Tsugio (President of the Japanese Medicinal Plant Research Association, Doctor, known as the “Father of Gynostemma”), Professor Arichi of Kinki University, and Professor Ojima of Kanazawa University, its physicochemical indicators ranked first among similar products worldwide, and it was named “Chinese Pingli Gynostemma.”
