The Dadaogang Tens-of-Thousands Mu Tea Garden is located in Dadaogang Township, Jinghong City, Dehong Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, about 65 kilometers from Jinghong. There is a world's largest contiguous tea garden covering 65,246 mu (about 4,349 hectares). The elevation of the area ranges from 1,300 to 1,460 meters with an annual average rainfall of 1,557 millimeters and an average temperature of 18.8°C. There are no severe winters or scorching summers, offering a mild climate year-round. The favorable ecological environment leads to plump tea buds that have a quick return of sweetness and a pleasant mouthfeel, rich in amino acids. Brands such as “Dadaogang,” “Changtai,” “Longyuan,” and “Daye Long” are well-established here. The production capacity exceeds 5,000 tons of various types of finished tea annually, which are sold throughout China and exported overseas. It serves as a primary production and processing base for Yunnan Pu'er tea and Green Tea.
The tea gardens are connected by mountains and roads, forming a continuous expanse surrounded by virgin forests, free from any industrial pollution. This creates a unique spectacle of clouds, mountains, mist, tea, roads, and villages all intertwined. As a result, Dadaogang Township has become the first Pu'er tea township in China. In 2013, it was honored with the title of “China's Most Beautiful Tea Garden Landscape” and “Third Batch of National ‘One Village One Product' Model Townships.” In 2025, it received the title of “China's Beautiful Tea Garden,” and on August 27, 2025, the World Record Certification Authority (WRCA) certified the 65,246-mu contiguous tea garden as the “World's Largest Contiguous Tea Garden,” which was included in the “2025 World Records Collection – China Edition.”
In recent years, 49 tea enterprises within the garden have explored a development model integrating “enterprise + base + farmer + market + technology.” This has made Dadaogang Township the most intensive and industrialized tea-producing region in Xishuangbanna. Scaled and standardized bases for raw Pu'er tea, ripe Pu'er tea, Biluochun Black Tea, White Tea, and theaflavins have been established, and corporate brands such as “Dadaogang,” “Changtai,” “Longyuan,” “Full Mountain Song,” and “Pastoral Idyll” have been created. In 2025, the total output of dry raw tea in Dadaogang Township reached 5,379 tons, with a comprehensive value of the tea industry reaching 619 million yuan. A total of 81 village groups in Dadaogang Township are engaged in tea planting and processing, with income from the tea industry accounting for 84% of their total household income.
The Xishuangbanna Prefecture earnestly practices the ecological development concept proposed by President Xi Jinping, “Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.” Focusing on the protection of ancient tea trees and the construction of the Dadaogang provincial modern tea industrial park, the prefecture deepens and expands the results of green organic tea garden construction, accelerates the transformation and upgrading of the tea industry, and enhances its quality and efficiency. Based on the transformation of tea gardens, the region leverages its natural and cultural resources to cultivate eco-tourism and eco-healthcare industries, promoting the demonstration project of Pu'er tea industry integration. A path of prosperity through the integration of tea and tourism is gradually taking shape here.
