On April 20th, Cizhu Village in Mengtong Town welcomed another group of visitors from afar. They were Tea merchants from Kunming who came primarily to learn about the organic tea cultivation and processing in Cizhu Village. The tea merchants said they had come after seeing a promotional video on the village's e-commerce platform and were here to conduct an on-site investigation.
Cizhu Village spans 43.4 square kilometers with an average elevation of 1,718 meters and an annual rainfall of 1,225 millimeters. It is located on the 24th parallel north, which is considered the prime latitude for tea cultivation in Yunnan Province. The forest coverage rate reaches 92.2%, and the area is often shrouded in mist, with a cool, moist climate. There is also the Dacheng Reservoir, one of the four medium-sized reservoirs in Changning County. The landscape features high mountains, tranquil lakes, clear waters, green pines, lush bamboo, blooming mountain flowers, and fragrant tea, making it a beautiful environment suitable for growing tea, walnuts, mulberry trees, and grains.
The village currently has a total tea garden area of 7,300 mu, averaging 27 mu per household, including 1,400 mu certified as organic. There are two standardized Tea processing enterprises and seven primary tea processing factories. The unique natural conditions, such as climate and soil, provide the local White Tea processing materials with distinctive advantages. The produced tea products are highly favored by merchants from other regions and are sold in large quantities in Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, and other places. The demand for tea products exceeds supply, with over 100 tons of dried tea sold annually, generating more than 5 million yuan in revenue from the tea industry. In 2025, the village was recognized as a specialized tea village under the “One Village, One Product” program in Baoshan City.
Cizhu Village places great importance on e-commerce development and has constructed a standardized indoor e-commerce live-streaming studio with functions like product display, live marketing, and guest reception. Since March this year, the Cizhu Qingyuan Tea Professional Cooperative registered and started operating a Douyin account online. Through cooperation with companies and training professional talents, they have been consistently posting promotional videos featuring their tea products, which have significantly increased traffic and followers, attracting the attention of tea merchants from other regions. In just over a month, multiple batches of out-of-town merchants have arrived, or contacted the village party secretary via phone to consult and negotiate business, further promoting the rapid development of the tea industry and giving the local officials and residents a real taste of the convenience and benefits brought by e-commerce.
