The lowest altitude within the county is 150 meters and the highest is 2,320 meters. History and Folklore

Historical records indicate that during the Tang Dynasty, the region known today as Xiazhou was called Xia Prefecture Yiling Commandery, which included areas such as Wufeng (then known as Bashan), Changyang, Yichang, Yuan'an, and Hefeng counties. The large tea trees mentioned were those growing along the riverbanks. This indicates that there were naturally growing tea trees in Wufeng over 2,300 years ago. Here, the climate is mild, with abundant rainfall, sufficient sunlight, high humidity, and significant day-to-night temperature differences, characteristic of the Yangtze River valley. The soil is rich in trace elements like zinc and selenium, beneficial to human health, making it highly suitable for tea tree cultivation. As the saying goes, “High mountains and misty clouds produce fine teas, while low hills and terraces yield early teas.” It is precisely this geographical endowment and natural environment that have made Wufeng an ideal place for cultivating top-quality teas.

Tasting and Preparation of Wufeng Maojian

Wufeng Maojian is a delicate type of tea. When brewing, choose mineral water and allow the boiled water to cool down to around 92-93 degrees Celsius.
