Historical Folklore

Historical records show that Plum Tribute Tea originated in the Spring and Autumn period and became well-known during the Tang Dynasty. It is said that Prince Li Xian of Luling, when demoted and passing through the Plum Ridge of Zhuxi during the heat of summer, fell ill and fainted. The locals brewed tea from Plum Tribute Tea and gave it to him, after which he recovered. Prince Li Xian then presented the Plum Tea to Empress Wu Zetian, who praised it highly and designated it as a tribute. This is how “Plum Tribute” got its name and became known throughout the land. Later, during the Ming Dynasty, Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang also designated Plum Tribute Tea as a tribute and ordered local officials to present it annually.

The saying, “Yangtze River water, Chu region Plum tea,” has been a high praise for Plum Tribute Tea since ancient times.
