Drinking Tea alone is tranquil; with two people it's interesting; and with a group it's joyful. These are three realms of Tea tasting, each with its own unique experience.
When a small group drinks tea, they savor the beverage and enjoy the exchange of conversation.
When two people drink tea, the flavor might be lighter, but there's more interaction between their souls.
When one person drinks tea alone, they're not just tasting the flavor of the tea, but rather the essence of life or even existence.
Throughout our lives, every realm or level of tea tasting is essential, as it forms part of our life or existence.
Some people prefer drinking tea in a group, while others enjoy sharing a cup with just one other person. Still, there are those who don't like to be disturbed and choose to slowly savor the passage of time alone.
Drinking tea alone is a spontaneous act. As for the tea itself, there's no need to delve into the quality of the leaves or the water used for brewing.
In other words, the tea doesn't have to be the finest grade, nor does the water need to be exceptional. Any tea will do, especially if it suits your taste.
When drinking tea alone, there's no need to fuss over details such as the Teaware, the amount of tea leaves, the water temperature, or even the space where you choose to drink.
The reason why drinking tea alone is so spontaneous is that it provides a window for dialogue with one's soul. Here, the tea merely serves as a medium; having tea is enough.
On the journey of life, we are all very busy. Some are searching for goals, others for business opportunities, some for platforms, and others are… well, always busy. Before we know it, we've lost touch with our souls.
What is the soul? It's hard to put into words. The Buddha said: “I am the most beautiful lotus flower in the world.” He also said: “Let us negotiate our future lives with a single lotus flower, and spend our entire lives moving towards each other.”
However, we live too carelessly and often lose touch with our souls. When we feel lost and uncertain about how to face life, it's because we can't find our souls.
The soul cannot be sought blindly; the harder you try, the less likely you are to find it. Although the soul belongs to you, once you lose it or tarnish it, it no longer truly belongs to you.
It's better to slowly drink tea alone. When you're by yourself, the tea can help you gain clarity and insight. Once you gain clarity, you also see your true nature, and in doing so, you give your soul a cleansing bath without even realizing it.
