Product Features
Wild Snow Chrysanthemum only grows above 3,000 meters on the northern slope of the Kunlun Mountains in Minfeng County, Hotan, Xinjiang. Its growing environment is extremely harsh, with perpetual snow and uninhabited areas. Due to its slow growth cycle and short flowering period, harvesting is very difficult, making production extremely scarce. Moreover, the natural environment above 3,000 meters in the Kunlun Mountains is harsh, consisting mostly of deserts and gravel plains, with only a few areas suitable for cultivation where snowmelt flows through oases.
Historical Folklore
In 2006, Mr. Jing Zhaojun discovered this small yellow flower called “Gulichar” at a Uyghur market and was immediately attracted by its mysterious aura. After further investigation, he was convinced by its efficacy. Upon his return, he resolutely abandoned his ten-year career in the tobacco industry and decided to develop the Snow Chrysanthemum industry! When others asked him what it was called, after much thought, he said: “Kunlun Snow Chrysanthemum.” From then on, “Gulichar” had a Han Chinese name, “Kunlun Snow Chrysanthemum.”
The reason for the inconsistency in the names of the Kunlun Snow Chrysanthemum is partly due to the fact that while the Tian Shan Snow Lotus is world-renowned, the equally famous Kunlun Snow Chrysanthemum in Xinjiang's Uyghur community has only been discovered and spread within the last decade or so, and thus is not yet widely known. Therefore, it is not surprising that other names or even misnomers would arise for the same wild plant. The Tian Shan Snow Lotus is generally used as medicine, whereas the Kunlun Snow Chrysanthemum can be used as a daily beverage in homes or offices and also as an elegant gift for friends and family. With increasing online dissemination, it is believed that the name “Kunlun Snow Chrysanthemum” will become just as well-known.
Tasting and Preparation Methods for Niyagunlun Snow Chrysanthemum
The Four Steps for Selecting Snow Chrysanthemum:
Smell: High-altitude Snow Chrysanthemum has a medicinal aroma; plain Snow Chrysanthemum does not.
Look: High-altitude wild Snow Chrysanthemum appears as dark red spherical flower buds with deep-colored stamens. Due to the harsh growing environment, there are few or no petals, which are golden yellow in color, and the flowers are small and not attractive. Plain Snow Chrysanthemum, grown in comfortable environments, has large buds with large, relatively complete petals and lighter-colored stamens.
Aroma: Authentic Snow Chrysanthemum from the original high-altitude cultivation area has a faint medicinal scent; low-altitude cultivated Snow Chrysanthemum has a more pungent smell, like that of medicated Herbs, or some may have a strong sweet smell after being processed. These are not the authentic scents.
Taste: The broth of high-altitude Snow Chrysanthemum is a deep red color, with a medicinal aroma and a sweet taste; plain Snow Chrysanthemum broth is dark yellow, not deep red, lacks the medicinal aroma, and tastes sour and bitter.
