Fu Tea brewing is a simple yet somewhat tricky technique; if you're not careful, the brewed tea can have a weak taste and aroma, and the mouthfeel can be thin. As more and more of my friends who drink tea become increasingly discerning, how should one brew Fu tea? What is the correct way to drink it?
Methods for Drinking Fu Brick Tea
Brewing Method: Place Fu brick tea in a cup and pour boiling water (100 degrees Celsius) directly over it. Cover with a lid and steep for 5 minutes before drinking.
Cooking Method: Put the prepared Fu brick tea into a glass pot, add an appropriate amount of water, and after briefly pouring boiling water over the tea to rinse it, add cold spring water. After the water comes to a boil, filter out the tea leaves and enjoy the tea.
Fu Brick Tea + Milk: Boil the prepared Fu brick tea in water for 10 minutes, then add an appropriate amount of milk and bring to a boil again. Use a strainer to remove the tea leaves, and the tea is ready to drink.
Place the prepared Fu brick tea into a covered bowl.
Rinse the tea by pouring hot boiling water into the covered bowl and, after 3-5 seconds, discard the water.
Brew the tea using a ratio of approximately 1:40 tea to water. Use water at 100 degrees Celsius or higher to fully extract the flavor of the Fu tea.
For the 2nd to 3rd infusion, steep for about 5 seconds; for the 4th to 5th infusion, steep for around 10 seconds; for the 6th to 7th infusion, steep for approximately 20 seconds; for the 8th to 10th infusion, steep for around 20 seconds. The tea is now ready to drink.
Four Methods for Drinking Jingyang Fu Tea
1. Steaming Method
Select a set of Fu tea steaming equipment, along with a tea clip, a fair pitcher, and tasting cups. Place the prepared Jingyang Fu brick tea from Fu Tea Family into the steaming device. Using a common 1000ml steaming device as an example, add 6 grams of tea, although you can adjust this according to your personal taste. Add purified water, preferably mountain spring water. Once the small red button next to the switch turns off, the tea is ready. If you want to keep it warm, simply do not turn off the power. Pour the bright orange-yellow or orange-red Jingyang Fu brick tea broth into the fair pitcher, then into the tasting cups, and sip slowly.
2. Brewing Method
Like the brewing method used for green tea, White Tea, etc., prepare a porcelain or clay Teapot. First rinse the teapot with boiling water. Add the previously broken Jingyang Fu brick tea. The tea-to-water ratio is 1:25–30, as Fu brick tea uses older leaves that are more durable. Let it steep for about 10 minutes. Pour the brewed tea into the fair pitcher, then into the tasting cups. The unique mushroom fragrance of Jingyang Fu brick tea is invigorating.
3. Infusion Method
Find a thermos and add the previously broken Jingyang Fu brick tea. Pour freshly boiled water into the thermos, cover it, and let it steep for about 20 minutes. Pour the brewed tea into the fair pitcher, then into the tasting cups for tasting.
4. Seasoning Method
Add other beverages to the tea cup. Using the tea broth cooked as described, add other beverages such as sugar, butter tea, milk, salt, etc., according to personal preference to improve the taste. This method is most commonly used by ethnic minorities on the borders.
