Preparations

Choice of Teaware

The best choice for brewing Taiping Houkui is a transparent glass cup or a glass teapot. Transparent teaware allows you to appreciate the beautiful sight of the tea leaves slowly unfurling in the water and makes it easier to control the water temperature and Steeping time.

Water Quality Requirements

Water quality has a significant impact on the tea infusion. When brewing tea, it's best to use mountain spring water, purified water, or mineral water. Chlorine and other impurities in tap water may spoil the taste of the tea leaves.

Temperature Control

Taiping Houkui belongs to the green tea category, and the water temperature should not be too high when brewing. The optimal water temperature is between 80°C-85°C. Higher temperatures can destroy the nutritional components in the tea leaves, leading to a bitter taste in the tea infusion.

Brewing Steps

Step One: Warming the Cup

Rinse the teaware with hot water first. This not only cleans the teaware but also preheats it, preparing it for the subsequent brewing process.

Step Two: Adding the Tea

Generally, use about 3 grams of Taiping Houkui tea leaves per cup, roughly a small pinch. Gently place the tea leaves into the glass cup or teapot without crushing them.

Step Three: Blooming the Tea

Pour 80°C-85°C hot water into the cup or teapot, filling it to about one-third of its capacity. Then gently swirl the teaware to allow the tea leaves to slowly unfurl in the water. This process lasts approximately 10-20 seconds, after which the water is discarded. This step serves to clean the tea leaves and awaken their aroma.

Step Four: Brewing

Slowly pour 80°C-85°C hot water into the teaware again, filling it to about two-thirds of its capacity. Do not cover the teaware, allowing the tea leaves to naturally unfurl in the water. The brewing time is approximately 2-3 minutes, allowing the nutrients in the tea leaves to fully dissolve in the tea infusion.

Step Five: Tasting the Tea

Pour out the tea infusion and taste it slowly. The tea infusion of Taiping Houkui is clear and bright, with an inviting aroma, a sweet and mellow taste, and a lingering aftertaste.

Brewing Tips

Controlling Steeping Time

The steeping time for Taiping Houkui should not be too long; 2-3 minutes is the optimal time. If the steeping time is too long, the tea infusion will become bitter. If you prefer stronger tea, you can extend the steeping time slightly, but do not exceed 5 minutes.

Multiple Infusions

The tea leaves of Taiping Houkui are durable and can be re-infused 3-4 times. Each subsequent infusion time can be gradually extended, but attention should be paid to keeping it within reasonable limits to avoid overly concentrated tea infusions.

Maintaining Clean Teaware

After each brewing session, clean the teaware promptly to prevent tea stains from affecting the quality of the next tea infusion.
