CaiNong Tea: Appreciating Pu-er – Drinking at the Right Temperature

Tea News · May 06, 2025

When tasting Tea, the tea soup entering the mouth requires a certain temperature. Without a suitable temperature, we cannot fully experience the various aromas of the tea. A too-low temperature will weaken the aroma, taste, and bodily sensation accordingly. The temperature of the tea soup when it enters the mouth should ideally be around 60 degrees Celsius. Slightly higher temperatures can bring us an even better taste and bodily sensation, but avoid Drinking Tea that is too hot as it can easily scald our taste buds and mucous membranes. We recommend drinking the tea hot or warm, avoiding both scalding hot and cold tea. Especially for middle-aged and elderly people, they should try to avoid drinking cold tea.

The swallowing method involves directly swallowing the tea soup without using the mouth and taste buds to perceive the taste and flavor of the tea. This tasting method focuses more on the integration of the tea with the body, i.e., the bodily sensation. This is the most worthy method for everyone to carefully experience. There is no need to pay too much attention to the external expressions of the tea such as its aroma, taste, and texture, but rather focus on the core bodily sensation of the Pu'er tea. Note that when learning the swallowing method, the temperature of the tea soup should be appropriate, around 50 degrees Celsius, and not too hot to prevent scalding the mouth and throat.
