Tea Fragrance of Xishuangbanna: The Yiwu Bohetang

Tea News · May 06, 2025

Bohetang is located deep in the mountains of the Yiwu Mansa Tea area, at an altitude of around 1,800 meters. It is a small Village within the primeval forest. The tea trees in the Bohetang tea area are scarce and very old, unevenly distributed with some here and others there, producing a limited yield but with unique qualities. This has earned it the reputation as a benchmark tea in the Yiwu tea region. It is said that the Yao ethnic group living here discovered this tea garden by chance while planting “herbal spices” deep in the forest. There was a naturally growing patch of “mint” in the tea garden, hence the name “Bohetang”.

Since Bohetang tea gained fame, its price has remained consistently high. The ancient Bohetang tea garden lies on a slope in a mountain ravine, where one can hear the sound of running mountain springs from within the garden. Although not large, the surroundings of the garden are excellent, and the tea trees grow well. Why is Bohetang tea so sought after? Its uniqueness lies in the fact that the dry tea leaves are dark green with long stalks, robust in texture, and the infusion is bright golden yellow. The tea is mellow and refreshing, with a clear and crisp taste, fresh and sweet on the palate. The aroma blends seamlessly into the tea broth, leaving a sweet aftertaste and a sensation of salivation. There is no trace of bitterness or astringency, only a hint of Minty coolness. The overall feeling of the tea is very soft and sweet, with a smooth and delicate broth. The tea has a strong presence, with its fragrance lingering between the lips and teeth for a long time. After drinking, the aftertaste is endless, the fragrance lasting and elegant, offering a unique flavor. Indeed, it is a rare treasure among teas.
