The Ancient Tea Garden of Yi Wu Doyi Tree

Doyi Tree is distributed within the state-owned forest, facing Bohetang across a mountain. Compared to Bohetang, Doyi Tree was discovered later, so fewer people know about it. Judging by the form of the tea trees, the ancient tea garden of Doyi Tree is a typical high-stemmed ancient tree garden in Yiwu.

The site of the ancient tea garden is a mountain ridge, remote and uninhabited. Only tea farmers visit during the tea-picking season. The path leading into Doyi Tree is not easy to traverse. In the state-owned forest of Yiwu, pickup trucks often can only get halfway before they need to switch to motorcycles. Then it's a bumpy ride all the way. Every trip up this tea mountain is an endurance test.

Along the way, you will find that, in this lush tropical rainforest with its diverse flora, there are many different kinds of trees, but tea trees are relatively rare. Shrubs are abundant, and wildflowers bloom beautifully. Tall sour Doyi trees and green, fragrant camphor trees provide natural shade for the ancient tea trees.

Currently, more than 50 Class I pole-shaped individual tea trees are preserved in the ancient tea garden, with one reaching a height of 23.5 meters. It is the tallest cultivated (Pu'er variety) ancient tea tree found so far. Additionally, the ancient tea trees in the entire tea field are large in size. Such tall ancient trees are relatively uncommon throughout Yiwu, and they are not easy to pick from, requiring climbing to harvest the leaves.

This cluster of tall ancient trees is indeed impressive, both in terms of the form and number of the tea trees. When I first saw these ancient tea trees, I was amazed. Characteristics of Doyi Tree Ancient Tree Tea:

Although Doyi Tree is not far from Bohetang, in terms of tea quality and taste, Doyi Tree is not just a copy or lesser version of Bohetang. The delicacy, thickness, and wild elegance of the tea liquor are comparable to those of Bohetang, and in some aspects, Doyi Tree even surpasses Bohetang. This quality is likely the fundamental reason why the price of Doyi Tree Class I ancient trees eventually surpassed that of Bohetang.

The woody aroma intertwined with floral fragrance adds a vast and profound dimension to this tea, distinguishing it from others. Compared to Bohetang, Doyi Tree has a more robust and powerful character, while the subtle and graceful tea liquor forms a stark contrast. The large size of the trees brings a rich depth to the tea liquor, which gathers into a concentrated mass. The waterway is delicate yet ethereal, with strong penetrating power and flexibility. Bitterness and astringency dissipate quickly. The astringency upon entry brings a rich and complex salivation. The wild essence from the deep forest permeates between the teeth, and a cool sensation in the tongue and throat becomes apparent with a deep breath, leaving the body feeling thoroughly refreshed. This flavor is unparalleled even within the Yiwu state-owned forest.
