As the saying goes: “three parts planting, seven parts management.” After spring, summer, and autumn growth and harvesting, the Tea trees have consumed a large amount of nutrients, and the soil between rows becomes compacted. As winter approaches, it is particularly important to manage the tea garden. After the beginning of winter, Mangnuo Township actively organized tea farmers to strengthen winter management of their tea gardens to ensure an increase in yield and improvement in quality for the Spring Tea next year.
In the ancient tea garden of Shang Huangcaolin Group in Kangtai Village, tea farmers are weeding, loosening the soil, and pruning branches to improve ventilation and lighting conditions in the tea garden, reduce the occurrence of diseases and pests, and promote the growth of the tea trees. The tea farmers of Huangcaolin Group have always adhered to the concept that “good tea is grown, and good tea is also managed,” rigorously and meticulously managing their tea gardens every year.
Dao Guangwen, the Party Branch Secretary of Kangtai Village, said: “In the Shang Huangcaolin Group of Kangtai Village, there is a total area of 1140 mu (about 76 hectares) of tea gardens, including 300 mu (about 20 hectares) of ancient tea gardens. With the rise in tea prices, tea farmers' understanding of the concepts of ‘ecological' and ‘organic' has been constantly increasing. Every autumn and winter season, tea farmers carefully manage their tea trees to ensure tea quality. Some major tea growers hire local farmers for work, which can provide employment for nearly 800 people, benefiting both the tea farmers and the local population.”
Tea has long been one of the leading industries for income growth among the people of Mangnuo Township. Currently, the total area of tea gardens in the township is 14,120.4 mu (about 941 hectares), including 3,173 mu (about 212 hectares) of ancient tea gardens. To effectively protect ancient tea tree resources and standardize the management of ancient tea trees, Mangnuo Township conscientiously implements the “Regulations on the Protection and Administration of Ancient Tea Trees in the Autonomous County of the Saurau, Va, Bulang, and Dai Nationalities of Yunnan Province.” It actively participates in the construction of the “Ice Island Tea Industry Demonstration Area Led by Party Building” to promote the improvement and efficiency of the tea industry. The township actively promotes and advocates the improvement of low-yield tea gardens, making efforts, implementing practical measures, and seeking breakthroughs in aspects such as improving the quality and efficiency of the tea industry. By formulating organic tea garden management methods and applying for organic tea certification, they focus on building a “one village, one product” tea industry, continuously strengthening the foundation for tea development, consolidating and expanding the results of poverty alleviation, and boosting rural revitalization.
