A Brief Discussion on Yiwu: Characteristics of Yiwu Ancient Tree Tea-4

Let's take a few representative mountains of Yiwu tea as examples:

Sweet Honey Harmony: Wanggong

Wanggong was once a famous village along the ancient tea horse trail and one of the two most glorious villages in Yiwu tea mountain. The ancient trees grow at an altitude above 1,800 meters. With a spring-like climate all year round, abundant high-altitude rainfall, and a remote location in the high-altitude wilderness with few people, it is free from the noise of the world. The original forest and ancient trees, growing freely and extensively, ensure the original ecological quality of Wanggong ancient tree tea to the greatest extent! Its unique sweetness and the balance between gentleness and strength make Wanggong different from other mountains in Yiwu.

Representative of Ecological Tea: Mahēi

Mahēi is one of the famous tea mountains in Yiwu. The tea produced in the major mountains of Yiwu has always been favored by Pu'er tea enthusiasts. Among them, “Mahēi” is the tea with the most flavor in Yiwu tea. Compared to the teas from other major production areas of Yiwu proper, “Mahēi” is a rare tea in terms of both quality and quantity.

The tea from Mahēi is gentle yet strong, with a profound aroma, pure and fragrant. It is one of the villages with the highest tea production in Yiwu.

King of Ancient Tree Tea: Luoshuidong

The quality of tea from Luoshuidong Village is excellent, with a rich honey fragrance, a slightly bitter yet soft taste, and a gentle tea soup, making it a true king of tea.

Wild High Fragrance: Baihuatan

The tea leaves of Baihuatan grow in an environment similar to a primary forest, with a high fragrance and delicate taste, and have been highly sought after in recent years.

Smooth Aftertaste: Guafengzhai

Guafengzhai is a pure Yao ethnic village on the border. The tea produced from the tea king trees in the tea garden stands out, characterized by a gentle and vivid tea qi that is soft and lingering.

A Brief Discussion on Yiwu: Characteristics of Yiwu Ancient Tree Tea-5

The charm of Yiwu tea originates from:

01. Excellent Ecology: The ancient tea trees grow in high-altitude areas, far from pollution, laying a solid foundation for the quality of the tea.

02. Rich Variety: Yiwu tea is mainly composed of large-leaf arbor species, which adapt to the unique climate and soil conditions of Yunnan.

03. Sweet and Soft Aroma: Yiwu tea is characterized by a sweet and thick floral aroma, with a delicate taste and a rich fragrance.

From the following two images, we can see that the proportion of β-ionone (sweet and thick floral aroma) in Yiwu tea is higher compared to other mountains, while the content of tea polyphenols is relatively lower, and the proportions of soluble sugars and amino acids are higher. This allows Yiwu tea to release a more intense aroma and taste during brewing.

04. Unique Processing Technique: The production technique of Yiwu tea combines traditional and modern technologies, preserving its unique characteristics.

05. Fast Transformation: The aging effect of Yiwu tea is evident, with the taste and aroma gradually intensifying over time.

06. Cultural Carrier: Yiwu tea carries the history of tribute tea, serving as a carrier and embodiment of culture.

Each of the seven villages and eight hamlets of Yiwu has its own charm. The tea from Mahēi is high in fragrance and sweetly gentle, the tea from Guafengzhai is robust and full-bodied, the tea from Luoshuidong is elegant and sweet, the tea from Dingjiazhai is mellow and smooth… If we only describe Yiwu tea as having a fragrant and soft water character, we would really underestimate the charm of “Yiwu as the Queen.”
