Many enthusiasts believe that tea stains are a valuable accumulation over time and that with such stains, even plain boiling water poured into the purple clay teapot will come out with a faint tea aroma.

However, uncleaned tea stains can easily breed bacteria, which is not good for your health. So, how do you clean the teapot without removing the patina? Below, we will show you how to clean the tea stains inside the purple clay teapot without damaging the patina.

Step 1:

Place one spoonful of edible pure alkali (baking soda) into the teapot and pour in boiling water (ensure you preheat the teapot first). Fill the teapot completely and cover it with the lid.

Step 2:

Wait for about two to three minutes, then gently scrub the inside of the teapot with a teapot-nurturing cloth or a soft-bristled brush. You will see the tea stains turn into yellow water flowing out, leaving the teapot interior shiny and new. If the first attempt does not thoroughly clean the teapot, you can repeat the process. However, make sure to use a soft brush or cloth to avoid damaging the teapot.

Note: To avoid damaging the patina, when soaking the teapot in alkaline water, do so as if you were brewing tea—keep the alkaline water inside the teapot, rather than submerging the entire teapot in a container full of alkaline water, to prevent affecting the patina on the exterior of the teapot.

Proper Initial Nurturing in Three Steps:

First: Rinse the teapot inside and out with warm water;

Second: Warm up the purple clay teapot with water around 60 degrees Celsius;

Third: Place an appropriate amount of the tea you plan to Brew inside the teapot, pour in boiling water, and let it steep for half an hour to an hour.

After each session of nurturing, always remember to wipe the outer surface of the purple clay teapot clean, otherwise, uneven colors may appear. Some people do wipe the teapot after each use but do not do so promptly, and by the time they get around to it, it may be too late.

It's worth noting that purple clay Teapots also need rest. Continuous and uninterrupted brewing will keep the teapot in a damp state, preventing it from thoroughly drying out and potentially breeding bacteria. Generally, after using the teapot for a few days, allow it to rest for two to three days before using it again.
