While brewing Tea with a purple clay Teapot is great, it can also lead to the accumulation of tea stains. During the process of nurturing the pot, frequent brewing inevitably leaves tea residues inside the pot.
Many enthusiasts believe that tea stains are the essence accumulated over time, and with this layer of tea residue, even pouring boiled water into the Purple Clay Teapot will result in water that still carries a faint tea fragrance after being poured out.
However, the truth is that unwashed tea stains can easily breed bacteria, which is not good for your health. So, when cleaning the pot, how can one avoid washing away the patina? Many enthusiasts are reluctant to clean their pots thoroughly because they fear washing away the patina that they have developed. Below, we will teach you how to clean the tea stains from the inner walls of a purple clay teapot without damaging the patina.
Step One:
Place one spoonful of edible baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) into the pot and pour in boiling water (100 degrees Celsius) (remember to warm up the pot first). Fill the pot completely and then cover it with the lid.
Step Two:
Wait for about two to three minutes, then gently scrub the inside of the pot using a pot-nurturing cloth or a soft-bristled brush. You will see the tea stains turn into yellow water flowing out, leaving the cleaned pot bright and like new. If you feel that the first rinse did not thoroughly clean the pot, you can repeat the process, but make sure to use a soft brush or cloth to avoid damaging the pot.
Note: To avoid damaging the patina, when soaking the pot in water, only soak the water inside the pot as you would when brewing tea. Do not soak the entire pot in a container filled with alkaline water, as this could affect the patina on the outer surface of the pot.
Correct Three-Step Process for Seasoning the Pot:
First: Rinse the inside and outside of the pot with warm water until clean;
Second: Warm up the purple clay teapot with water around 60 degrees Celsius!
Third: Place an appropriate amount of the tea you intend to brew inside the pot, pour boiling water over it, and repeatedly steep for half an hour to one hour!
After each session of nurturing, always remember to wipe the outer surface of the purple clay teapot clean; otherwise, there might be uneven coloring due to stains. Some people do wipe the pot after each use, but they do not do so promptly, and by the time they get around to caring for the purple clay, it may already be too late.
In fact, purple clay Teapots also need rest. Continuous and uninterrupted brewing will keep the purple clay in a moist state, preventing it from thoroughly drying out and making it easy for bacteria to grow. Generally, after a few days of use, the purple clay teapot should be allowed to rest for two to three days before being used again.
