Tea News · May 07, 2025

The Damu Lhoba Ethnic Township has been thoroughly implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping's important statement that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.” Following the overall layout of the Tea industry in Metog County, the township adheres to the principle of “government guidance, enterprise leadership, and public participation.” With a specific approach of “quality-driven tea, green-driven tea, and brand-driven tea,” it is vigorously developing its tea industry. Currently, a total of 1,747.5 mu of tea seedlings have been planted across the township. In 2025, 1,111 mu will be available for tea picking, with an additional 188 mu becoming available in 2024, bringing the total area for tea picking to 1,299 mu. Since tea picking began in March, over 37,000 catties of tea leaves have been produced, successfully achieving the annual goal of picking 30,000 catties of tea.

Increasing Benefits from Tea

Firstly, management of the tea industry is actively effective. The township ensures logistical support for tea farmers by regularly supervising villages in weeding and fertilizing their tea fields. An expenditure of more than 30,000 yuan from funds dedicated to doing good for the people was used to purchase 20 tea pruning machines for the community. The township also provides excellent service to tea companies, strengthening regular communication with businesses, actively visiting them to inquire about their needs and expectations, providing processing sites, coordinating utilities such as water and electricity, and tracking the development of these enterprises.

Secondly, measures to mobilize the public are well-implemented. Members of the township's Party and government leadership work hard to motivate the public. They hold routine discussions with Village Party committees using successful local examples, engaging in face-to-face talks with villagers in meeting rooms, homes, and in the fields. Since the beginning of this year, members of the township's Party and government leadership have visited villages for publicity over 40 times. They also regularly arrange for all township staff and resident work teams to share relevant posts, effectively motivating the public to plant and pick tea leaves.

Thirdly, multiple measures are taken to broaden sales channels. The township has established connections with several tea companies, including Heavenly Tea and Guiyun Tea Industry Co., Ltd. It has reached verbal agreements on tea sales with these companies, ensuring that all tea produced this year will be purchased. Contracts have been signed with tea companies and the Gongri Village Ecological Breeding Cooperative for land transfers totaling 177 mu, with annual rent payments reaching 177,000 yuan. This effectively expands the sales channels for the tea industry and boosts the confidence of the public in planting tea. Additionally, 257 catties of homemade tea were produced, invited guests, tourists, and work groups to taste and purchase it, generating a cumulative income of 56,000 yuan.
