With the popularity of dark teas, Liubao Tea, also a type of dark tea, is receiving more and more attention. As an aged tea, Liubao can be stored for a long time, but there are specific considerations when storing Liubao tea. A tip for consumers: ensuring adequate ventilation and dispersing the warehouse smell is very important.
Liubao tea undergoes cave storage during processing, so it's essential to pay attention to its storage method after bringing it home to enhance its flavor and value. Here are some key points for its storage and conditioning:
1. It should not be sealed tightly; a little ventilation is preferred. Wrapping it in cotton paper, rice paper, or kraft paper is sufficient. After unwrapping, store it in a porcelain jar or earthenware pot, which does not need to be tightly sealed, allowing for slight ventilation.
2. If the tea has a warehouse smell, place it in the open air until the smell dissipates before storing it.
3. If the tea tastes “tight” or “astringent,” spread it out or loosen it up. Let it naturally “revitalize,” which will enrich its flavor and aroma.
4. Keep it away from the kitchen and places with peculiar smells.
5. To disperse the warehouse smell, expose the tea to natural wind in October and November when the north wind blows, as it is dry with a humidity level around 50%. On dry days, you can open the windows for ventilation, but on rainy days, ensure the windows are closed to prevent dampness. Avoid direct sunlight.
6. For teas that have developed their unique scent, if you're not drinking them immediately, keep their outer packaging intact to preserve the scent. Before tasting, remove the outer paper, and let it “revitalize.” Regular tasting will gradually improve its condition. Once revitalized to your satisfaction, wrap it in paper for storage.
7. For teas without a scent or with a slight warehouse smell, remove the outer paper, clean it, and allow it to breathe adequately before re-storing.
8. Using air conditioning to blow air can be too drying. This method can be used to remove the warehouse smell, but afterward, the tea needs natural air and appropriate humidity to “revitalize.”
