The constitution is formed by heredity and acquired factors, it refers to the inherent and relatively stable characteristics of an individual in terms of morphology, structure, and functional activities, which are correlated with psychological traits.
We advocate healthy Tea drinking. So, how should people with different constitutions choose their tea?
The following describes the relationship between nine different constitutions and six major types of tea, hoping to be helpful to you.
For a balanced constitution, all types of tea are suitable. In spring, drink Green Tea; in summer, White Tea or green tea; in autumn, oolong tea; in winter, black tea, ripe Pu'er, aged raw Pu'er, or dark tea.
For a qi-deficient constitution, unfermented and lightly fermented teas should be consumed less or avoided. Suitable choices include: black teas like Qihong and Dianhong, roasted oolong teas such as Yancha and Dancong, and ripe Pu'er. Fermented teas are generally milder.
For a damp-heat constitution, detoxifying beverages with a neutral taste are recommended. You can enjoy plain Zhengwei Tieguanyin or Wuyi Yancha. Alternatively, you can prepare your own lemon black tea, goji berry black tea, or coix seed tea. There are many options available.
For a yin-deficient constitution, refreshing teas like yellow tea or white tea are suitable. Examples include Mount Meng Yellow Bud, Junshan Silver Needle, Fuding White Peony, or Baihao Silver Needle. If you prefer flavored teas, try silver ear tea, mulberry tea, or goji Jujube tea.
For a qi-stagnant constitution:
For a qi-stagnant constitution that enjoys tea, we recommend fragrant teas like Jasmine tea, osmanthus oolong, chrysanthemum Pu'er, or Phoenix Dancong. Additionally, goji tea or tangerine peel tea are good for promoting qi flow. However, avoid drinking tea before bedtime, especially if you have poor sleep quality.
For a yang-deficient constitution, cold and cool beverages should be avoided. Warm stomach and body teas are recommended, such as aged Fu brick, Qianliang tea, roasted oolong, and flavored teas like ginger black tea or longan jujube tea (black tea). For Pu'er, drink less raw tea and more ripe Pu'er.
For a phlegm-dampness constitution, focus on light and detoxifying teas. If you cannot resist the temptation, you may lightly brew some aged oolong or dark tea. The most important thing is to persistently adjust your body.
For a blood-stasis constitution, try not to get angry frequently. Regularly drink refreshing teas like green tea and jasmine tea, such as Taiping Houkui, Dongting Biluochun, and Huangshan Maofeng, or jasmine teas like Jasmine Silver Needle and Bitan Snow Drift. Non-tea drinks like hawthorn tea or lemon tea are also great options!
For a special constitution, if you love tea, opt for highly fermented and moderately roasted teas. Black tea, dark tea, and ripe Pu'er are all good choices. Given the high sensitivity of this constitution, do not overindulge in tea.
