① Varieties: Such as the small-Leaf Yibang Cat's Ear Pu'er tea;

② Processing methods: Baked green or stir-fried green.

According to data from multiple laboratories, only raw Pu'er tea made from large-leaf sun-dried Green Tea and then pressed into cakes can undergo optimal flavor transformation during long-term storage.

With this knowledge in mind, let's discuss how to store Pu'er tea at home!

Key Point: The basic principles of storing tea are ventilation, dryness, avoiding light, and ensuring there are no odors. We will list specific methods based on these principles.

1. Storing in Cardboard Boxes

Storing in cardboard boxes is the most cost-effective and practical method.

First, place the tea in plastic bags, and then put them inside cardboard boxes. Avoid placing the boxes against walls or on the floor, as direct contact should be minimized.

In regions with high humidity such as Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang, and Shanghai, the tea may easily become damp. It is best to store the cardboard boxes in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area, like a bookshelf or wooden rack.

During the plum rain season, when humidity is high, regularly check the tea for dampness. Additionally, avoid exposing Pu'er tea to sunlight, as prolonged exposure can cause it to deteriorate.

2. Storing in Tea Cans

Storing in tea cans is the most scientific method. Cans effectively prevent the tea from becoming damp and also protect it from air exposure and oxidation. Additionally, storing tea in cans can help “wake up” the tea, achieving multiple benefits at once.

Recommended cans: Clay or purple clay cans.

There are two options for storing tea in cans:

① Use small cans, each containing one type of tea.

② Use large cans, with the tea pre-packaged in separate plastic bags before being placed in the can.

① Different varieties of Pu'er tea have distinct aromas, so separating them prevents flavor mixing;

② Ensure the can is sealed to prevent the tea aroma from dissipating;

③ Store raw and ripe teas separately;

④ Ripe tea is best stored in purple clay cans that allow for better breathability;

⑤ Waking up aged tea. For aged tea, break it apart and place it in a purple clay can one month before drinking to achieve a richer taste.

3. Storing Loose Tea

Note: Compressed loose tea is not suitable for small-batch storage, as it can easily lose its flavor. After storing loose tea for one to two years, noticeable losses in aroma and taste may occur. For short-term storage, use plastic bags or store in a purple clay can.
