How many infusions can a serving of Tea stand? Green Tea can be infused three to four times, Black Tea four to five times, and Oolong more than seven times with lingering fragrance. Pu'er can withstand over twenty infusions… but which one is the best?
The first infusion, the second the tea,
The third and fourth are the essence,
The fifth and sixth are no less fine,
The seventh still has lingering fragrance, the eighth has lingering taste,
The ninth and tenth still leave an aftertaste.
The first infusion, “as if we had just met in life”;
The third infusion, “like the early spring when the plantain sprouts”;
The sixth infusion, “the best time is when oranges and tangerines are ripe”;
The ninth infusion, “unwilling to part even when satisfied”;
All these poetic descriptions essentially mean that
every infusion is good!
The Buddha asked his disciples:
“How long is human life?”
One said, “Fifty years.”
“Incorrect!”
“Forty years!” “Thirty years!”
The Buddha shook his head each time, saying, “Incorrect.”
The disciples were perplexed and asked:
“Then how long is human life?”
The Buddha smiled and pointed to his nose, saying:
“Life spans only between breaths.
Life spans only between breaths,
This is the concept of “living in the present,”
Let us devote all our energy
To embracing this very moment.
Without cherishing the present, there won't be a next moment;
If you don't cherish now, you cannot cherish your entire life;
If you don't embrace the present, you cannot embrace the future.
Which infusion is the best?
In fact, every infusion is good.
A skilled brewer brings out a more fragrant flavor,
A discerning drinker tastes more subtle nuances.
