As we all know, Pu'er Tea is made from Yunnan large-Leaf sun-dried Green Tea within the protected geographical indication area, using specific processing techniques. It has unique quality characteristics. According to its processing technology and quality characteristics, Pu'er tea is divided into two types: Raw Pu'er (Shengcha) and Ripe Pu'er (Shoucha).
For most Pu'er tea enthusiasts, whether it's raw or ripe tea, they usually keep a few cakes of their favorite Pu'er at home. For unopened boxes or bundles of Pu'er tea, storage is relatively convenient as manufacturers have taken good measures for moisture-proofing and other protections. But how should one store loose cakes or partially consumed tea cakes? This is a common issue faced by many Pu'er tea lovers. Let's learn about it today!
What to use for storing opened Pu'er tea?
Method 1: Use a Dry Box for Storage
Since dry boxes maintain stable temperatures and isolate the air, placing tea in them prevents dampness and oxidation. Using clean, dry cardboard boxes is the best method, keeping raw and ripe teas in separate boxes after opening.
Method 2: Use Jars for Storage
First, use small jars to package a small amount of tea for easy access, while sealing the rest in larger jars for storage. It's best not to use glass or porcelain jars because these containers are transparent, do not prevent dampness, and are prone to breaking.
Suitable materials for jars include: Iron cans, as they are not transparent. Before packaging, line the inside of the can with a layer of cotton paper or kraft paper, and ensure that the can is clean, dry, and free of Odor.
Tin Cans: Double-lid cans are best, and before packaging, line the inside of the can with a layer of cotton paper or kraft paper. Seal any gaps in the lid with tape.
Airtight Jars: Airtight jars sold on the market are typically transparent. When using them, it's best to first wrap the tea in aluminum foil bags before putting them in the jar. You can also add desiccants to enhance moisture prevention.
