Why are some people obsessed with a single piece of tea ware?-1

The joy that a utensil brings lies in your understanding and appreciation of it. A small utensil can reveal the creator's mood. When an author is fully engrossed, the object they create will be delightful, perhaps an extension of their inner world.

Fellow enthusiasts often come from afar to share with me the joy of Tea and utensils, and I am honored by such affection. More and more tea lovers are genuinely seeking the pleasure of sharing and exchanging experiences. Over the years, tea enthusiasts have made rapid progress and pursued their own preferences, moving away from merely chasing popular branded teas to seeking out teas that suit their tastes. Their appreciation and requirements for utensils have also evolved from everyday use to personalized pursuits.

Initially, everyone began looking for utensils with a sense of design, creating various tea settings in their spaces. Mechanically produced sets not only serve practical functions but also fulfill decorative purposes, providing ready-made setups for tea presentations. Some tea enthusiasts' appreciation and aesthetics regarding utensils changed, perhaps reflecting changes in their quality of life. They increasingly sought a simple, unadorned, eco-friendly, refined, beautiful, and distinctive lifestyle, becoming unsatisfied with the coldness of machine-made utensils and preferring the warmth of handcrafted pieces. They sought more profound connections and happiness through a single utensil.

The enjoyment of utensils can begin in many ways. A small clay Cup or Teapot can reveal the author's clay body formulation, artistic shaping, glazing or non-glazing, the season and place of firing, and the type of kiln used, all of which contribute to the final outcome.

Traditional shapes of tea utensils have inherent characteristics, and authors who thoroughly understand these traditional forms ensure the practicality and comfort of their creations when held by human hands.

In daily use, we can appreciate their beauty from various angles. The beauty of glaze appears relatively direct, and people may first distinguish the variety based on color. The most direct way might be to categorize them as Ru, Guan, Ge, Jun, or Ding ware. Many authors have their unique glaze recipes, and the effect on the surface of the utensil varies due to different firing methods. Oxidation firing may improve the success rate but make the surface brighter and thinner. Reduction firing results in a warm and elegant glaze, although the success rate is generally lower. Shouyaki (wood-fired) surfaces have natural ash glazes, and the effects vary based on the author's initial concept, the clay body formula, the kiln, temperature, and fuel, producing unpredictable outcomes. Such natural effects cannot always be achieved artificially.
