Basic Introduction to Sea Buckthorn Tea
Sea buckthorn, also known as black thorn, is a specialty of Xining City in Qinghai Province and Qinghe County in Altay Prefecture, Xinjiang. The term sea buckthorn refers both to the plant and its fruit. The sea buckthorn plant belongs to the Elaeagnaceae family and is a deciduous shrub with characteristics that include drought tolerance and resistance to wind erosion. It can survive on saline-alkali soil, making it widely used for soil and water conservation. It is one of the few plants capable of surviving in harsh environments like deserts and cold highlands, and the only plant able to thrive in the “Earth's Cancer” region of arsenic sandstone. The fruit of the sea buckthorn is used medicinally for its effects in stopping coughs, dissolving phlegm, strengthening the stomach, aiding digestion, and promoting blood circulation.
Nutritional Value
The sea buckthorn has a warm nature and a sour taste. It is effective in clearing heat and relieving cough, promoting blood circulation and resolving stagnation, tonifying the spleen and benefiting the stomach. It is used for injuries, difficulty breathing, excessive coughing, poor digestion, and blood stasis. In Tibetan medicine, it is often used for uterine disorders, irregular menstruation, pulmonary tuberculosis, gastric ulcers, and excess stomach acid. Due to its rich content of active substances, sea buckthorn has anti-fatigue, anti-cancer, and vitality-enhancing properties. It is beneficial for treating coronary heart disease, preventing scurvy, arteriosclerosis, lowering cholesterol, and relieving coughs and asthma.
