As one delves deeper into the world of Pu'er Tea, it becomes apparent that the three major tea regions in Yunnan are home to countless famous mountains and villages. Previously, Wanyue shared with you several mountains that offer exceptional quality teas at great value: Hiding from the shopkeeper, I'm going to quietly share these three hidden gems with you!
Some have a significant reputation, almost universally known, and are darlings of the tea world;
Others are ranked as second or third-tier but are still highly valued, being newcomers to the spotlight;
And then there are those teas with lesser renown, hidden away in pristine forests, yet they boast excellent quality. Not only that, but they're also reasonably priced and perfect for everyone's enjoyment.
Top-tier mountain teas can be quite expensive, favored by a select few, whereas the latter are more affordable and approachable, making them easier for many to enjoy.
During every Spring Tea season, Nanming Jia Ren's spring tea team visits the three core Pu'er tea production areas in Xishuangbanna, Pu'er City, and Lincang.
They explore various villages and ancient tea gardens, discovering many mountains with little fame but excellent tea quality. They have even tried making tea products from these mountains, such as Nanming Jia Ren's Qinglian and Tanhua, which focus solely on quality rather than origin. These shares have been well-received by tea enthusiasts.
Based on this, today we will share some mountains that aren't widely known but produce excellent tea.
Yiwu Tea Region
— Daqishu, Overshadowed by Bright Stars
Daqishu is part of the Macha Village Committee, with its ancient tea gardens neighboring Luoshuidong and Macha tea gardens. It is also a must-pass place to reach Dingjiadian and Guafengzhai;
However, due to its remote location and overshadowed by the popularity of other famous mountains in Yiwu, Daqishu has a low profile. Yet, its price is considered low compared to other Yiwu teas, while its quality remains high. Only a few truly understand its worth.
What are the advantages of Daqishu?
From the perspective of the tea garden environment, Daqishu's tea garden ecosystem is no less favorable than those in Macha and Luoshuidong. Moreover, because of minimal development, Daqishu's ancient tea gardens are hidden within the forest, imbued with the robust wild charm of the wilderness. The ancient tea trees, not over-harvested, possess richer internal qualities, ensuring both taste and storage value.
From the angle of tea tree growth, since Daqishu has not received much attention, tea farmers do not manage the tea trees. With less human activity in the tea garden, the tea trees grow freely in nature, resulting in a tea flavor closest to its natural state when processed into a tea product.
From the taste after aging, the aged Daqishu ancient tree spring tea consistently delivers fruity sweetness, acceptable even to first-time tasters. More discerning tea enthusiasts can appreciate the subtlety and depth, as well as the cool and expansive tea essence in the infusion.
Menghai Tea Region
— Bama Old Village in Nannuoshan
Bama Old Village is part of Shitou Old Village, the highest ancient tea garden in Nannuoshan. The ancient tree tea here is recognized as high-quality and offers great value for money.
The ancient tea garden of Bama Old Village is near the mountaintop, situated in the primitive forest, shrouded in clouds all year round. The three-dimensional ecosystem and intact biodiversity contribute to a tea style that is sweet, soft, and smooth, with a clear and profound tea essence.
Menghai Tea Region · Mengsong
— Huazhuliangzi, the Peak of Xishuangbanna
Huazhuliangzi is located in Mengsong Township, Menghai County, Xishuangbanna. Its highest peak reaches 2,429 meters above sea level, the highest point in Xishuangbanna, earning it the name “Roof of Xishuangbanna.”
Most of the ancient tea gardens in Huazhuliangzi are situated on the mountain slopes, growing in dense forests far from villages, with minimal human interference, resulting in naturally pure tea quality.
The area of ancient tea trees in Huazhuliangzi is considerable, and although prices rise slightly each year, the increase is minimal, making it a high-value choice. Its highly aromatic and sweet style has always been popular among many. Nanming Jia Ren's Huazhuliangzi ancient tree spring tea, after undergoing transformation, boasts a refined texture and a sweet, expansive throat resonance, making it even more suitable for general consumption.
