Entering the tea garden, a sea of lush greenery meets the eye, and the aroma of tea follows the autumn breeze. On both sides of the road stand numerous tea farmers eager to learn about garden management techniques.

During the training, Tan Xiaofeng focused on two aspects: scientific fertilization and pest control in tea garden management. She engaged in on-site exchanges with the tea farmers, answered their questions, demonstrated pesticide spraying, and reminded them of precautions, allowing the farmers to gain a more intuitive understanding of the pesticide application technique for closing the garden.

“The purpose of conducting training on autumn-winter fertilization and winter pesticide application in tea gardens is mainly to address issues related to fertilization and pest control faced by local tea farmers. We teach them how to apply fertilizers through trenching, how to select pesticides, and how to close the garden during winter. This enhances the quality and yield of early Spring Tea leaves, ensuring that the people have tea to harvest,” said Second-level Researcher Tan Xiaofeng from the Guizhou Provincial Plant Protection and Plant Inspection Station.

As the leading industry of Pu'an County's “One County, One Industry” initiative, tea has become an important source of income for the local population in recent years. In recent years, Pu'an County has taken various measures to ensure proper management of tea gardens, enabling tea farmers to master the necessary techniques, improve the quality of tea leaves, increase the rate of leaf plucking, and promote the tea industry as a means for increasing household incomes and achieving prosperity.

“This training was very beneficial. I learned a lot, including how to manage the tea garden during autumn and winter, how to fertilize, and how to prevent and control pests and diseases. I hope such activities can be held frequently,” said tea farmer Liu Minghe.
