Teach You the Correct Way to Take Tea

Tea News · Jun 22, 2025

Do not grab tea with your hands as it can easily spoil.

Let me share with you the correct way to take tea.

Pay attention to these tips!

Reaching into the tea with your hands not only disrupts the tea's natural elegance but may also waste it by causing it to spoil faster. Tea is highly susceptible to moisture and foreign odors.

Our hands come into contact with many surfaces daily, inevitably carrying bacteria and microbes. Additionally, hands may sweat or retain moisture.

If you scoop tea leaves with your hands, you alter their dry environment and risk contaminating them with bacteria or microbes. The dampness also creates a breeding ground for them. In such conditions, the tea’s delicate fragrance fades, and the leaves may deteriorate more quickly.

In tea ceremonies, it’s customary to use a dedicated tea spoon—made of stainless steel, wood, or bamboo. However, the spoon must be stored in a dry environment, such as a utensil cabinet. If possible, keep it in a sterilizing cabinet. Alternatively, you can pour the tea leaves directly into the cup, adjusting the amount to your preference. Remember: if you pour too much, never return the excess to the tea bag or container, as the leaves may have absorbed moisture or contaminants, hastening spoilage.

Beyond the method of taking tea, proper storage is crucial. Ideally, store tea in tin, ceramic, or tinted glass jars; iron or wooden boxes are also suitable. The containers must be dry and clean, and after filling, place them in a dry, well-ventilated area.
