I believe that every Chinese person has a gene for loving tea

Tea News · Jun 27, 2025

Someone asked me why more and more people like tea?

I thought for a long time but couldn't find a suitable answer until one day I came across a perspective about obese individuals, and it suddenly dawned on me.

We often assume that obese people are overweight due to lifestyle habits, but in reality, their obesity is determined by genes—genes that drive them to favor lifestyles that lead to weight gain.

So, does a person's love for tea also stem from the role of genes? Perhaps, those who love tea inherently possess a 'tea-loving gene,' and when they encounter tea, they unconsciously develop a deep affection for it.

Tea has accompanied the Chinese people for over a thousand years. Over such a long period, it has inevitably exerted a subtle influence on the Chinese spirit. Through generations—one, two, three, or even dozens—could it not have quietly integrated into people's genes, forming a 'tea-loving gene'?

Due to certain historical reasons, traditional ways of life once drifted further away from us. Later, as living standards improved, calls to inherit traditions grew louder, and 'traditional culture' became popular again. Many traditional cultural practices gradually re-entered our lives, gaining fervent admiration—among them, tea.

For a long time, tea played a negligible role in the lives of Chinese people, but the fading of its form did not alter the underlying gene.

Although more and more people are fond of tea, I don’t believe it’s a fashion or a trend. Loving tea is, in fact, an alignment with our inner desires and a return to our spiritual roots.

When we have no opportunity to encounter tea, our tea-loving gene lies dormant. The moment we come across tea, this gene awakens, releasing immense energy that draws us to tea.

Our love for tea is a destined reunion after a long separation. That’s why, when we meet tea, we feel calm, unhurried, and joyful.

Our love for tea may not be new love but the rediscovery of an old affection.

Why are more and more people loving tea? Why do many find it hard to part with tea once they fall in love with it? Because every Chinese person carries a tea-loving gene.

Perhaps this gene does more than just inspire a love for tea—it may represent a deeper force that drives us to pursue spiritual beauty and live life with passion.

The tea-loving gene.
