Tea News · Jul 07, 2025

Dark tea is not suitable for everyone, and drinking dark tea requires attention to certain precautions. Below, we explain who should not drink dark tea.

1. Pregnant women should not drink dark tea

Because dark tea is rich in tea polyphenols, caffeine, and other substances that may adversely affect the fetus and potentially impact the baby's intellectual development, pregnant women are advised to avoid dark tea.

2. Lactating women should not drink dark tea

Women who are breastfeeding should also avoid dark tea, especially strong dark tea, as the caffeine in the tea can seep into breast milk. After feeding, the infant may become excited due to caffeine, leading to insomnia and crying.

3. Vegetarians should drink less dark tea

Those who prefer a vegetarian diet or consume little meat should also limit their intake of dark tea, as certain components in dark tea can inhibit the absorption of vitamin B, iron, calcium, and other nutrients. For vegetarians, drinking dark tea may lead to malnutrition, so it's best to consume it sparingly.

4. Patients with动脉硬化 or hypertension should not drink dark tea

Dark tea contains active substances such as theobromine, theophylline, and caffeine. For individuals with动脉硬化 or hypertension, drinking dark tea may increase the risk of脑血栓, especially when their condition is unstable.

5. Anemia patients should not drink dark tea

The tannic acid in dark tea can react with iron, forming an insoluble compound that reduces the body's iron supply. Therefore, anemia patients should avoid drinking dark tea, as it may negatively affect their health.
