White Sugar and Licorice Tea Can Protect the Liver, Daily Use as Tea to Detoxify the Liver

The liver acts like a "silent hero," quietly helping the body remove waste and ensuring metabolism functions.

Traditional Chinese Medicine believes "the liver stores blood," and its function affects the body's overall qi and blood circulation. As a vital metabolic organ, the liver accumulates many "toxins" daily. Therefore, an important aspect of liver care is daily detoxification. White Sugar and Licorice tea is particularly effective in this regard.

Licorice is sweet and neutral in nature, capable of tonifying the heart and spleen, clearing heat and toxins, and harmonizing the effects of various medicines. Modern medical research indicates that licorice can enhance the liver's detoxification ability, increase glycogen storage in liver cells, and promote metabolic processes within the liver. The main component of licorice, glycyrrhizin, has significant anti-inflammatory, immunoregulatory, antiviral, detoxifying, and enzyme activity regulating effects and is now widely used in treating liver diseases. A Japanese study tracking patients for over 15 years found that the liver cancer rate was reduced by about 50% in those long-term taking glycyrrhizin.

The White Sugar and Licorice tea primarily utilizes its heat-clearing and detoxifying properties. Take 30 grams of raw licorice and 30 grams of white sugar. Moisten, wash, and slice the raw licorice, then place it with the white sugar in a small pot or steamer cup. Add about 250 ml of water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a simmer and decoct for 10 minutes. Use this daily as a tea substitute, especially suitable for individuals with toxic hepatitis or those whose livers have been "damaged." If decocting is too troublesome, you can also directly steep licorice in water or prepare Mung Bean and Licorice Soup. It should be noted that individuals with symptoms of abdominal distension, or those taking medicines incompatible with licorice such as Da Ji (Knoxia root), Gan Sui (Gansui root), or Yuan Hua (Genkwa flower), should avoid consumption.
