The Great Uses of Unremarkable 'Tea Leaves'

Tea News · Dec 21, 2025

For those who regularly drink tea, don't forget to collect the leftover tea leaves each day—they have many practical uses. Below are several clever applications for used tea leaves.

1. Use tea leaves to wash pots and dishes or wipe wooden and bamboo furniture, making items shinier in an eco-friendly way.

2. Collect and dry tea leaves, then spread them in damp areas to absorb moisture. If placed inside a pillowcase as filling, they create a soft, fragrant pillow that helps clear the mind and reduce internal heat.

3. Soak tea leaves in water for a few days, then water plant roots with the liquid to promote growth.

4. Steep tea leaves in boiling water until fully infused. Once cooled, filter out the leaves, soak a sweater in the tea liquid for 15 minutes, gently rub it, rinse with clean water, hang in a shaded area until half-dry, and then air-dry completely outdoors. This method cleans dust from sweaters while preventing color fading.

5. New wooden furniture often has a strong paint odor. Wiping it several times with tea water can effectively eliminate the smell, outperforming many commercial cleaners.
