Storing Pu'er tea is very much against direct sunlight, especially intense summer light. Direct sunlight can directly affect the color of Pu'er tea, causing the dry tea to appear reddish and lacking luster. Additionally, it affects the taste, imparting a “sun-dried” flavor, which is not desirable for Pu'er tea.

Some people might believe that refrigerators are universally suitable for food storage, so they store Pu'er tea in the refrigerator. However, this practice is highly undesirable. Both extremely low and high temperatures are not ideal for Pu'er tea, as they can negatively impact its transformation and taste.

Additionally, ensuring adequate ventilation in the storage environment is essential. Even to prevent the teas from affecting each other, raw and ripe teas should ideally be stored separately.

Although storing Pu'er tea seems to involve many precautions, for small quantities stored at home, there's no need to worry excessively. Especially, purchasing a few purple clay jars or Ceramic jars for your favorite teas can eliminate many troubles, making tea storage a simple task.
