The Nine Major Therapeutic Effects of Drinking Pu-erh Tea

(1) Reducing Fever and Inflammation: Pu-erh tea absorbs little heat during processing, making it an excellent cooling beverage with fever-reducing and dampness-removing properties. It has been traditionally used for disinfection, inflammation reduction, and sterilization. Aged Pu-erh can be used as a fever reducer for children with measles, with effects said to surpass antibiotics, earning it the ancient name "sacred medicine for measles."

(2) Antioxidant: Research from the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center shows: "The antioxidant content in one cup of green tea equals that of 4 cups of orange juice, while the antioxidant content in one cup of Pu-erh tea equals that of 12 cups of orange juice."

(3) Anti-mutation: Salmonella tests revealed that Pu-erh tea was more effective in preventing mutation than other tea types in each experiment, theoretically suggesting it has greater anti-cancer potential than green tea and black tea.

Note: The Salmonella test is used to detect whether a chemical substance has anti-DNA mutation effects. The earliest sign of a healthy cell turning cancerous is DNA mutation.

(4) Anti-cancer: During cooking, sugars and amino acids can easily transform into carcinogenic heterocyclic amines. Studies show Pu-erh tea significantly inhibits various heterocyclic amine carcinogenic mutagens. The combination of Sulindac and Pu-erh tea also affects the expression of β-catenin, blocking the formation of carcinogens, thus providing a chemopreventive effect against cancer. It also reduces the side effects of non-steroidal anti-cancer drugs (NSAIDs).

(5) Lowering Blood Pressure: Pu-erh tea contains significantly higher levels of free amino acids, especially theanine, compared to other teas. Injecting theanine into spontaneously hypertensive rats significantly lowers their blood pressure—diastolic, systolic, and mean arterial pressure—without major changes in heart rate.

(6) Lowering Blood Sugar and Lipids: Pu-erh tea's unique processing better preserves active enzymes essential for the human body but found in lower amounts in other teas. Long-term consumption can significantly increase lipoprotein lipase activity, promote fat breakdown and metabolism, effectively control insulin secretion, delay glucose absorption, break down excess sugar, and promote blood sugar balance. It also stimulates pancreatic juice secretion, reducing sugar sources and increasing sugar utilization.

(7) Liver Protection: In vitro experiments prove that Pu-erh tea extract can effectively inhibit the secretion of HBsAg and HBeAg, thereby suppressing the replication and expression of the hepatitis B virus.

(8) Boosting Immunity: Pu-erh tea is rich in theanine, which breaks down into ethylamine in the human liver. Ethylamine mobilizes immune cells in the blood to defend against external threats, then T-cells promote interferon secretion, forming a "chemical defense line" against infection.

(9) Weight Loss: Obesity results from fat synthesis exceeding breakdown in fat cells. Pu-erh tea can significantly inhibit the activity of fat-synthesizing enzymes in fat cells and promote fat breakdown metabolism, achieving weight loss effects.
