It is generally believed that Pu-erh ripe tea tastes good after 2-3 years of storage, but is this really the case? Is it too simplistic to measure the taste of a Pu-erh ripe tea solely by its age?
For Pu-erh ripe tea, different teas often require different storage times. Whether it tastes good depends on the tea's fermentation degree, the grade of raw materials used, and the transformation speed determined by the storage location.
Generally speaking, normally fermented ripe tea tends to develop a better taste after two to three years of storage. If lightly fermented, it may take three years or more for the flavor to fully emerge, while over-fermented tea may require less time.
Regarding the grade of raw materials, higher-grade teas are less conducive to后期 transformation, whereas lower-grade Pu-erh ripe teas often transform better over time.
As for the transformation speed influenced by storage location: in humid and闷热的 regions, tea transforms faster but is prone to developing霉味 or堆味. Conversely, in dry regions, transformation is slower, but the taste is often better. Therefore, for Pu-erh ripe tea, dry storage is emphasized to ensure a pure, clean taste without off-flavors, resulting in higher collection value!
