Precautions for Storing White Tea in Different Places

Tea News · Jun 17, 2026

White tea is the most valuable tea for collection. White tea is carefully made using traditional techniques, without stir-frying or揉捻, preserving natural nutrients as much as possible. This determines its unique storage method, which is the same as the ancient method of storing herbal medicine. It can be stored in a sealed, dry, odor-free, and pollution-free room temperature environment. However, storage methods for white tea should be different in different places.

1. When storing white tea at home, pay attention to:

1. Store in a sealed container. The natural aging of white tea comes from the natural transformation of internal substances, so it must be stored in sealed containers, such as sealed iron cans, porcelain cans or tin cans with good sealing lids, avoiding purple clay pots or clay pots.

2. Store away from light. Light will oxidize the surface of the tea leaves, affecting the taste.

3. Store at room temperature. White tea does not need to be stored under refrigeration conditions, and should also be kept away from heating radiators in northern winters.

4. Store in a place without odors. Tea leaves contain high-molecular palmitic acid and terpene compounds, which easily absorb various smells, so they must avoid contact with various mixed odors.

5. Store in a dry place. Only tea with low dryness can be stored for a long time without deteriorating, so the tea must also be protected from moisture. In short, white tea can only be stored for a long time in a sealed, light-proof, dry, room temperature, and odor-free environment.

2. When storing white tea in a tea factory, pay attention to:

1. Clean up sources of odors around the tea factory and storage warehouse: Finished tea has strong absorbency. If affected by odor sources, the quality of the entire batch of tea will be seriously impacted. Small tea factories and scattered processing points should pay special attention to this.

2. Pack and store in boxes at the right time: Box and seal when the tea temperature is close to room temperature. If sealed too early, the baking heat is not fully dissipated, and the higher temperature will easily accelerate the deterioration of white tea. If sealed too late, the dry tea will absorb moisture, rehydrate, increase water content, and accelerate deterioration. Room temperature storage warehouses with good sealing and insulation properties are preferred. The warehouse walls should be thick, and there should be no glass doors or windows to avoid sunlight exposure causing deterioration of white tea. Where conditions permit, dedicated low-temperature storage warehouses should be built for storage.

3. Packaging: Packaging materials should be safe, odorless, and have good moisture-proof, air-blocking, water-proof, aroma-preserving, light-shielding, heat-sealing, and printing performance. When loading, handle gently, do not press heavily or step on, to prevent breakage and crushing.
