What Tea is Suitable as a Staple Tea?

Tea News · Jul 30, 2025

Some people can't go a day without steamed buns, some can't go a day without chili peppers, and others can't go a day without tea, hence the concept of staple tea.

So, what tea is suitable as a staple tea?

Tea is mainly divided into six categories based on processing methods: green tea, yellow tea, white tea, black tea, oolong tea (blue tea), and dark tea.

Due to differences in processing, each type of tea has unique properties. Let's discuss which one is more suitable as a staple tea from a health perspective.

Green tea and yellow tea are relatively rich in nutrients among the six types, so their antioxidant, anti-radiation, and anti-cancer effects are stronger.

However, it's important to note that green tea has the most pronounced stimulating effect, which can lead to insomnia for many people, sometimes severely.

White tea is cooling in nature and is often referred to as a synonym for reducing internal heat. Some even call it 'women's tea.'

Unlike green tea, it doesn't irritate the stomach and is gentle even when freshly brewed. Aged white tea is particularly effective in treating colds.

Oolong tea (blue tea) is neutral—neither too warm nor too cool—and has a relatively strong aroma and flavor. Many people choose oolong tea as a weight loss tea because it's safe and gentle.

It doesn't harm your stomach or cause constipation, but like green tea, it may keep you awake.

Black tea and dark tea are warm in nature and can help warm the stomach. People with stomach issues may find these teas beneficial for relieving stomach coldness. They are also more effective in aiding digestion and reducing greasiness, making them great for weight loss.

Some people feel very hungry after drinking dark tea, but it doesn't cause insomnia.

However, those prone to internal heat may experience constipation or breakouts if they drink too much.
