Pre-Qingming Tea or Grain Rain Tea, Which One Do You Prefer?

Tea News · Jul 31, 2025

"Deep in the mountains at dawn, the essence of Qingming lingers; a leaf of spring tea carries the sentiment of Fujian." Every Qingming Festival, the aroma of tea naturally accompanies the occasion. Here, we wish all tea lovers a pleasant holiday, safe travels, and a life filled with good tea and good days!

The Qingming and Grain Rain solar terms are the seasons for harvesting new tea. Qingming tea refers to the tender tea leaves picked during the Qingming Festival (tea harvested before Qingming is called 'Pre-Qingming tea'). It is the first flush of the year. With moderate spring temperatures and ample rainfall, Qingming tea boasts a vibrant green color, soft leaves, and a rich, elegant aroma, making it a premium product of the season.

Grain Rain tea, harvested during the Grain Rain solar term (tea picked before Grain Rain is called 'Pre-Grain Rain tea'), is also known as the second spring tea. The suitable spring temperature and abundant rainfall result in plump, tender leaves with a lush green color and soft texture, rich in vitamins and amino acids. The tea is lively and fragrant. Grain Rain tea typically consists of one bud with one or two young leaves.

Traditionally, many believe that Pre-Qingming tea (harvested before Qingming) is superior to Grain Rain tea. While it's true that Pre-Qingming tea is delicate and of high quality, its flavor often fades after two or three infusions. In contrast, Pre-Grain Rain tea, when brewed, unfurls like a rebirth on the branch, brimming with the vitality of spring. Its rich aroma lingers even after multiple infusions. A single sip brings forth a refreshing fragrance, washing away the浮躁 and worldly pursuits.

Nowadays, many people追捧 Pre-Qingming tea, chasing its 'early' harvest. However, this 'early' comes at a high price for buyers. The price difference between Pre-Qingming tea and Grain Rain tea is significant. Few buy Pre-Qingming tea for personal consumption; most purchase it as gifts. When it comes to expensive teas, consumers are advised to approach them rationally.
