Do You Believe in Green Tea Baths for Beautiful Skin?

Tea News · Sep 25, 2025

Properly combining tea drinking for whitening, wellness, and weight loss is known to many. Some also know that washing the face with tea water can whiten and nourish facial skin. But have you heard of tea baths? Tea baths offer unexpected benefits—let’s take a look.

There has long been a saying that tea baths beautify skin and relieve heat rashes. Green tea has the effect of removing dirt and oil from the skin's surface, thus helping prevent and treat skin diseases. Using green tea as a bath agent can warm the body gently from the inside out, especially suitable for those with cold sensitivity. Regular green tea baths can soften keratinized skin on hands and feet and whiten the skin.

The tannins in green tea can effectively inhibit carcinogens, raising hopes for green tea baths in preventing skin cancer. With its cool color and refreshing, elegant aroma in the bath, it provides a comfortable and pleasant experience. After bathing, the skin feels particularly soft and smooth, but this effect is only achieved with tea leaves from the first brewing.

Preparation and usage method:

(1) Take an appropriate amount of used tea leaves (green tea leaves) and air-dry them naturally in a ventilated place. Store after fully drying.

(2) Place the dried tea leaves in a gauze or cotton bag (10–20 cm long, 5–10 cm wide) and tie the opening. Alternatively, tea leaves can be added directly to bathwater, but cleanup afterward is difficult.

(3) Put the tea bag into the bathtub while the water is still cold, then add hot water; or wait until the bathwater reaches 40°C before adding the tea bag. Let the bag float freely, allowing the active components to dissolve before bathing.

(4) During the bath, use the tea bag to massage your face.

Special note: Use tea leaves with a moderate pH level, as overly acidic or alkaline tea can harm the skin.
