How Nutritious is Seafood?
(1) Fish, shrimp, crab, etc., are rich in protein, with content as high as 15%–20%. Shark fin, sea cucumber, and dried scallops contain over 70% protein. Additionally, the essential amino acid composition of fish protein is similar to that of meat, making it high-quality protein.
(2) Fish, shrimp, crab, etc., have very low fat content, mostly 1%–3%, and are primarily composed of unsaturated fatty acids, which are easy to digest and less likely to cause arteriosclerosis.
(3) Fish fat is extremely rich in vitamins A and D, especially in fish liver. Fish meat also contains certain amounts of niacin and vitamin B1.
(4) Seaweed such as kelp and laver are rich in iodine and iron.
Drinking Tea After Eating Seafood Leads to Stones
The reason why it is not advisable to drink tea after eating seafood is similar to why it is not recommended to eat fruits afterward. This is because tea also contains tannic acid, which can combine with calcium from seafood to form insoluble calcium compounds. Consuming tea before or after eating seafood increases the chance of calcium combining with tannic acid. Therefore, it is best not to drink tea while eating seafood. Similarly, it is advisable to wait at least 2 hours between consuming seafood and tea.
