Warm up with a cup of milk cap tea on such a cold day

Tea News · Mar 26, 2026

On such a cold day, waking up to a cup of milk cap tea sounds wonderfully warming. Netizen "Sugar_House" tried to order delivery, "What? No delivery? Not even for an extra five yuan? Only for four cups? How could I finish that alone?" The delivery guy was too stubborn, leaving "Sugar_House" feeling disheartened. "I must learn to make it myself." Exactly! And this delicious milk cap tea is actually quite simple to make.

Main Ingredients

Whipping cream, black tea bags, milk, salt, sugar

Instructions

1. Whip the whipping cream with salt until soft peaks form. (When the cream starts to thicken after whipping, gently lift the whisk; if the cream at the tip doesn't hold a firm shape, it's at the soft peak stage.)

2. Add 10-20ml of milk and continue whipping for 30 seconds. Then transfer to a container and refrigerate.

3. Brew the black tea. Generally, use 250 to 300ml of boiling water per tea bag, cover and steep for 3 minutes before removing the bag.

4. Add sugar to the tea and stir until completely dissolved.

5. Once the tea has cooled, take a glass, pour in the tea until it's about one-third from the top, then gently pour the prepared milk cap on top.

Tips

1. The milk cap can be made in batches.

Since a small amount of whipping cream is difficult to whip, it's recommended to make enough milk cap for several cups at once—perfect for sharing with friends.

2. Honey is a healthier alternative.

Sugar can be replaced with honey for a healthier and potentially better-tasting option. Feel free to customize based on your preference.

3. Loose-leaf tea can replace tea bags.

Tea bags can be substituted with loose-leaf tea—green tea or black tea both work, depending on personal taste. This is often more cost-effective and yields a stronger tea flavor. Remember to strain out the tea leaves to avoid affecting the texture.

The Correct Way to Drink Milk Cap Tea

First, sip gently to savor the flavor of the milk cap. Then, use a straw to reach the bottom and drink the underlying tea for a refreshing taste. When about half is left, stir everything together—the milky tea will offer a completely different flavor profile. Since the milk cap is made with fresh cream, each cup has a shelf life of only about 1 hour.

How to Distinguish Real from Fake Milk Cap Tea

Unlike milk tea where milk and tea are blended, milk cap tea is layered, typically with a nearly 2cm-thick milk cap on top and tea below. Authentic milk cap tea uses pure fresh cream or milk cap powder, delivering a rich, non-greasy creamy taste. Fake versions often use foamy substitutes with a milk-like flavor, resulting in inferior appearance and taste.
