After brewing tea, let it steep for a while to enhance its aroma

Tea News · Aug 12, 2025

"Brewing" refers to the process of leaving the tea leaves uncovered during preparation, allowing the tea aroma to dissipate naturally with rapid cooling; "steeping" involves covering the tea to maintain temperature and enhance its fragrance.

When brewing tea, the choice between "steeping" or "brewing" depends on the tenderness of the tea leaves. Generally, tender leaves are best brewed with more exposure, while older leaves benefit from more steeping.

Though seemingly simple, mastering the timing of "steeping" and "brewing" took many attempts. Reflecting on this, I realize how much good tea I might have wasted in the past by not allowing it to reach its full potential and showcase its best aroma.

Thus, tea is like people—understanding and treating it with care brings out the best in its aroma and flavor.

In life, finding a true friend is rare, and even rarer is finding someone who shares your interests. Therefore, cherish those with whom you can share tea, and always keep learning, as Confucius said: "When three walk together, there must be a teacher among them; seek to emulate the virtuous."
