Storage of Osmanthus Tea

Tea News · Oct 25, 2025

Osmanthus tea is favored by consumers for its pleasant aroma. After harvesting and processing, it must be promptly and scientifically packaged and stored to preserve its efficacy, quality, and value. Otherwise, improper packaging and storage can lead to issues such as insect infestation, mold, spoilage, evaporation, and loss of flavor, not only rendering it ineffective but also potentially causing harmful side effects.

1. Re-drying:

During the scenting process, the tea base absorbs a significant amount of moisture, reaching up to 15% water content. It is essential to re-dry it quickly to reduce the moisture content to around 5% and prevent mold. This type of floral tea is best packaged in double-layer non-toxic plastic film bags.

2. Packaging after drying:

After drying, the osmanthus tea is naturally cooled for 24 hours. It is then sealed in refined paper bags or composite film bags according to weight specifications, placed in cardboard boxes, and accompanied by small amounts of lime, alum, dry sawdust, rice husks, or other desiccants.

3. Storage in a dry, ventilated, and light-protected area.

Precautions:

Take care to prevent moisture, mold, and rodent damage. The storage period should not exceed one year.
