Dianhong is the general term for Yunnan black tea, divided into Dianhong Gongfu tea and Dianhong broken tea. Dianhong Gongfu tea has plump buds and leaves with golden pekoe, presenting a bright red liquor, rich aroma, and mellow taste.

Dianhong Gongfu tea was first successfully trial-produced in 1939 in Fengqing, Yunnan. According to the "Shunning County Chronicle": "In 1938, as tea regions in southeastern provinces were close to war zones and production was difficult, China Tea Company followed ministry orders to actively develop southwestern tea regions to maintain China's tea presence in existing international markets. On March 8, 1939, Shunning Tea Factory (now Fengqing Tea Factory) was officially established, with construction and trial-production advancing simultaneously".

That year, 15 tons were produced and sold to the UK. Production later continuously expanded, with organized production also in areas like Menghai, Xishuangbanna. The product's excellent quality made it deeply welcomed in international markets.
