Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that during the Summer Solstice, the body's yang energy reaches its peak, and qi and blood rise, making people prone to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular problems and heatstroke. Therefore, health preservation during the Summer Solstice is crucial, requiring special attention to nourishing heart qi and preventing heatstroke.
To nourish the heart and clear summer heat, the Summer Solstice Three-Leaf Tea is first recommended, consisting of lotus leaf, bamboo leaf, and mint leaf. During the Summer Solstice, these three leaves can be brewed together (3–5 grams each) or any one of them can be chosen (5–10 grams for lotus leaf or bamboo leaf, 5 grams for mint leaf) to make tea. This tea is excellent for clearing heart fire, nourishing the heart, and relieving summer heat. For those who find the bitter taste hard to accept, mung bean and watermelon drink can be used as a substitute, which involves adding small pieces of fresh watermelon to prepared mung bean soup.

During the Summer Solstice, the body's qi and blood ascend towards the head, and many people may experience dizziness and a feeling of fullness in the head. For those with fragile cerebrovascular health, the risk of cerebrovascular rupture is relatively high around the Summer Solstice. Therefore, it is necessary to appropriately direct qi downward. A simple method is to drink soup made with celery and radish.
For people with heart qi deficiency, excessive sweating can lead to symptoms such as heart palpitations, shortness of breath, and fatigue. It is recommended that such individuals start drinking American ginseng and Ophiopogon japonicus tea from the Summer Solstice. The specific method is to take 3 grams of American ginseng and 5 grams of Ophiopogon japonicus daily, steeping them in boiling water to drink as tea. However, this tea is only suitable for those with heart qi deficiency.
It is especially reminded that starting from the Summer Solstice, one should eat less warm-natured foods such as eel and mutton, and particularly reduce or avoid drinking alcohol.
