Why does foam appear when brewing tea? Have you ever experienced this? During the first infusion of tea, some tea leaves produce white foam. Today, we will explain this phenomenon.

Experts from the China Tea Development Research Institute believe there are three reasons for foam appearing when brewing tea.

First, it is caused by tea saponin present in the tea leaves.
Second, it is due to the fine white hairs (pekoe) on the tea leaves.
Third, the tea contains a higher amount of dust or broken leaf fragments.

However, it can be confirmed that the appearance of foam during tea brewing is not related to the quality of the tea. This is because the tea saponin in tea leaves has strong foaming ability. It does not affect the color, aroma, taste, or quality in any way, so it cannot be used to judge the quality of the tea.
