【Wuyi Rock Tea】The Queen of Rock Tea - White Cockscomb

Tea News · Mar 07, 2026

White Cockscomb is a distinctive Wuyi Rock Tea, the kind that quietly sits in a corner, saying nothing yet its presence is always felt—a premium tea that cannot be imitated by imposters.

If you don't believe it, look at the tea leaves. Here's how it's introduced online: White Cockscomb is one of the four famous tea bushes of Wuyi Mountain. The tea trees at the Outer Ghost Cave under Huoyan Peak in Huiyuan Rock and behind the Wuyi Mountain Ancestral Temple have unique buds and leaves—pale green in color, with a whitish tint, and curved, downy buds that resemble the crest of a white rooster, hence the name White Cockscomb.

The processed tea leaves are milky white to yellowish in color, with a bright orange-yellow liquor. Upon tasting, the fragrance lingers on the teeth and cheeks, refreshing the mind and clearing the vision—its effects are almost miraculous. Thus, this tea tree is called "White Cockscomb." Like the "Queen" of Wuyi Rock Tea, compared to other varieties, the dried tea leaves and brewed leaves are yellowish-green, appearing much more delicate. In terms of aroma, it gives me a sweet, pear-like fragrance—light and very comforting.

Personally, I feel it is a tea with a very unique flavor among Wuyi Rock Teas. When brewing, it should be steeped quickly. The tea liquor is soft and smooth, with a sweet and refreshing aftertaste. It is a light and delicate tea, yet it invigorates the mind and spirit. However, admiring the beauty of the tea leaves and brewed leaves surpasses the pleasure brought by its taste.
